Cheryl (Wiedwald) Falkowski on March 22, 2017 with her devoted husband, Charlie, by her side and her loving family holding prayerful vigil. Cheryl passed away peacefully after living graciously and waging hope through her brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1954 to parents Francis and Mary (Bannon) Wiedwald, Cheryl was the youngest of three children including brothers Rick and Tom Wiedwald.
Cheryl was a graduate of Robert Morris University where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration. Upon graduating, she started a teaching career at the Bradford School in Pittsburgh, PA, where she taught for 13 years. She transitioned from her teaching career to sales and management positions in the Higher Education Textbook Publishing Industry. Cheryl had a distinguished 25 year career in the industry where she earned many sales and leadership awards all while turning many of her professional relationships into cherished personal friendships.
Outside of work, Cheryl's personal interests included spending time with family, getting together with dear, life-long friends, shopping, many healthy activities such as her passion for yoga, walking, kayaking and biking. In 2014 Cheryl completed her 200-hour Teacher Training Certification in Yoga instruction. Cheryl volunteered for many causes but after her July 2015 diagnosis, she focused her attention on assisting the local Pittsburgh chapter of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).
Cheryl is survived by her husband Charlie (Chuck/Chas) to whom she was lovingly married to for 29+ years. The love and affection they shared was abundantly clear to everyone who witnessed them together. Charlie was so dedicated to her care.
Cheryl is also survived by her brothers Rick (Kathy) and Tom (JoAnne) Wiedwald, her in-laws Dolly (Curt) Ellenberg, Janet Falkowski, Carol Falkowski, Ann (John) Huber, Bill (Patty) Falkowski.
Her nieces and nephews Laurie (Rob) Moody, Shea (Joe Bellisario) Wesolowski, Ashley (Matt) Summers, Jeff (Gidget) Wiedwald, Jennifer Ellenberg, Lesley (John) Homer, John (Katherine) Huber, Jennifer (Greg Borchert) Huber, Bill Falkowski.
In addition, Cheryl is also survived by great nieces and nephews, Nicole, McKenzie, Tyler, Joey, Anthony, Gianna, Tommy, Christian, Caden, Dylan, Emily, Alex. She is also survived by two cousins, Jacquie Garland and Carol Cieslak, as well as her dear aunt Jean Jena.
Cheryl was a good friend to so many people. Hers is a legacy of love, friendship, healthy living and living her life through gratitude. One of Cheryl's favorite quotes is taken from the movie "The Notebook" which epitomizes her life: "There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I've succeeded as gloriously as anyone who ever lived. I've loved another with all my heart and soul and for me that has always been enough."
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at William Slater II Funeral Home, 1650 Greentree Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15220, and (412) 563-2800.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 3 at 11am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 310 Kane Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15243. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 2900 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317.
In lieu of flowers, Cheryl has requested that you get together for lunch or tea or place a call to a forgotten friend or distant family member. Donations can be made in Cheryl's name, to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), 1500 Rosecrans Ave., #200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266
